2026 B.C. election / Surrey City Centre

Surrey City News endorses Amna Shah

Our choice in Surrey City Centre is rooted in Shah’s community-service history, her experience representing the riding, and the public record readers can examine for themselves.

This is an editorial endorsement: a statement of our publisher’s preference, not a news finding. Surrey City News supports Amna Shah for another term as Surrey City Centre’s MLA.

Why we back her

Shah’s connection to Surrey began before she held provincial office. The Province of B.C.’s biography says she volunteered with the Surrey Food Bank and served on its board. That service matters to our editorial judgment because the daily pressures facing families in Surrey City Centre should be familiar to their representative.

Elections BC’s 2024 statement of votes records her election in Surrey City Centre. The provincial biography lists subsequent responsibilities as parliamentary secretary for mental health and addictions, parliamentary secretary for anti-racism initiatives, and deputy government whip. We see value in that constituency and legislative experience continuing.

Those are reasons for our endorsement, not a claim that any government project belongs to one MLA. Readers should judge Shah’s work and the competing candidates on the record. Elections BC’s candidate list identifies the choices on the 2026 ballot.

Our editorial choice

For Surrey City Centre, we endorse Amna Shah. We believe her community background and experience in office make a persuasive case for her return to the Legislature.

Our separate public-record profile traces her biography, provincial roles and Surrey-related statements in more detail. This page is our opinion; that profile is a source-linked account for readers who want to examine the record behind it.
